Essay Writing Prompts - How to Write an Essay

Essay Writing Prompts - How to Write an EssayPeople sometimes ask me about the best kinds of essay writing prompts. I find that students who are not writing an essay often ask me to suggest prompts, especially if they are unsure of what they are writing. So, in order to help these students out, I have a short article to share with you.The first paragraph of a five paragraph essay is the most important. You should use this introductory paragraph to get your readers to want to continue reading. Most essays that do not move beyond the first paragraph will not be read. Thus, writing a short introduction will make it much easier for your reader to keep reading. The second paragraph of a five paragraph essay is the meat of the essay. It needs to summarize the topics that were covered in the previous paragraph. Think of the topics that your students are struggling with and see if you can draw parallels between your students' problems and the topic that you just discussed. See if there is any thing that you can write about that will help them get past their problems. This is an opportunity for you to teach. The third paragraph of a five paragraph essay is where you deliver your conclusion. Make sure that you give a brief summary of your thesis statement in this paragraph. Also, make sure that you mention that your conclusion is based on your students' issues. If you are not clear, you will only confuse your readers and you will lose them as well. The fourth paragraph of a five paragraph essay is where you summarize what your essay is about. Use the paragraphs before this one to provide your readers with the background of your argument. Remember that people will only read one or two paragraphs at a time. The fifth paragraph of a five paragraph essay is where you discuss your conclusion. You need to make sure that you provide a complete account of your argument here. You also need to give your readers what they want: a plan for the next steps that they need to take. The final paragraph of a five paragraph essay is where you let your readers know that you have provided them with all of the information that they need to see how your arguments work. After you have done this, you will conclude your essay. Make sure that you address your reader's questions as well. All students can benefit from writing essays; however, they might find that they do not know how to start their essays, so the only way that they can do this is by using essay writing prompts. If your students are struggling with their essays, then try some of the five paragraph essay writing prompts that I have shared with you. You might be able to help your students with their writing and earn their respect.
